The BBVA Microfinance
Foundation has granted
microloans to 346,758
customers amounting to $287m
The BBVA Microfinance Foundation,
founded in 2007 and funded with
€200m, now has 346,758 customers
in Latin America, thereby benefiting
approximately 1.7 million people.
The Foundation is now present in
Colombia, Peru, Puerto Rico and
Costa Rica. +
BBVA increases its community
investment to €85m, 24%
up on 2007
The BBVA Group earmarked €85.3m
for financing community investment
projects in 2008, a year-on-year increase
of 24%, with this investment
accounting for 1.7% of the profits
recorded last year and which the
institution pledges to uphold in 2009 in
spite of the recession. +
The Niños Adelante scheme has
awarded scholarships to 47,104
children in Latin America in 2008
The Niños Adelante scholarship
programme has been the principal
beneficiary of the Community Investment
Plan for Latin America. The aim of this
programme is to favour the social
integration of children from
disadvantaged backgrounds through
education. In 2008, this programme
awarded scholarships to 47,104 children,
a figure that is 163% up on 2007. +

BBVA is the main catalyst for
institutional SRI in Spain through
its Staff Retirement Plan. With
funds amounting to €1,900m and
41,100 members, the Plan is now
managed entirely according to SRI
